The Student National Dental Association (SNDA) originated from concerned dental students at Meharry Medical College in 1970. The creation of SNDA by Meharry laid the foundation of what has become the largest minority student dental organization in the United States today. Meharry is currently the largest chapter in the country with all dental students on campus being members. T​he Student National Dental Association (SNDA) has had a longstanding goal for over 40 years to promote, aid and support the academic and social environment of minority students.
